Following the United Nation declaration of 2015-2024 as the International Decade for People of African Descent (resolution 68/237), Südwind and its partners organize a round table together with art performances to raise awareness on the need for greater RECOGNITION of people of African descent and Black Europeans in Austria. Local experts and artists from People of African Descent living in Austria gave their personal insights on this first theme of the UN Decade: “Recognition” of People of African descent and Black European through: education, cultural rights, and data collection.

The International Decade for People of African Descent The decade focuses exclusively on the multiple discriminations People of African Descent (PAD) are facing every day in Europe. It establishes an explicit connection between historical traumatic events involving European share of responsibility, such as the slave trade and colonization, that not only durably disrupted the economic, political, social and cultural development of African countries but continues to have affect on the daily lives of Africans and People of African Descents living in Europe. www.un.org/en/events/africandescentdecade
