Media literacy workshops will constitute a powerful tool for attaining tolerance, respect and multicultural dialogue, as recognized by the European Commission. It will also enable citizens to evaluate critically media contents and empower them as independent media agents (2009/625/EC), becoming therefore more active and engaged citizens.
Workshops will be supplemented with a related topic such as multiculturalism or xenophobia, and train participants to identify discriminatory speech against minorities. Participants will subsequently materialize their knowledge trough a workshop on media activism where they will create counter narratives against discrimination that will show a more realistic view of citizens belonging to minority groups such as immigrants.
Through their own audiovisual creations, participants will become media activists that will disseminate positive narratives to fight for equal rights and against hate speech. Special emphasis will be made on disseminating participants’ creations in partner’s countries, offering these young citizens a unique opportunity for cross-cultural and societal engagement at European level.
